Colorado Images - The Maroon Bells Milky Way
I arrived at the Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado, a little before 3:00am. I was hoping for a clear night in which to photograph the Milky Way as it rises over this iconic location. It took about 30 minutes to set up my astrotrac - the tracking device that allows me to photograph the stars using long exposures without producing star trails. The air was still and the skies were clear and cold. On this summer morning, I felt I could reach up and swirl my hand through the Milky Way, and I felt our small place in the universe as well. This Colorado image is one of the products of that early morning session - the Milky Way rising over the Maroon Bells with Maroon Lake in the foreground.
